By the 1980s, models such as Elle Macpherson, Gia Carangi, and Brooke Shields began to endorse products and gain major recognition, appearing in nationwide commercials (look up the legendary Brooke Shields Calvin Klein jeans commercial). Popular models Twiggy, Cheryl Tiegs, and Jean Shrimpton were all honored with the supermodel title, reaching the peak of the profession.
